ARTICLE – ONLINE EDUCATION

Introduction. 

In the present era, as human beings, education is compulsory for all people. It gives us knowledge and art about how we should lead our life in society. It is a chapter on discipline. Discipline means what should we do, how should do and what should we not do. Now uncounted Schools, Colleges and Universities have been established in this world for granting education. Some of them are very costly. A common man does not have access to that. But I would like to pertinent mention here the first education institution for humans, animals, birds and all living things. That is our home, which is free of cost, by naturally everyone has access and our parents are teachers of this institution. We should have to pay full attention to this intuition. Parents can play the main role in the improvement of the moral and conduct character of their children and, that’s the basic purpose of education. Human is well conversant about education importance therefore, he leaves their home for higher education. An illiterate person is like a man who cannot see despite having both eyes. There are two main ways/methods for granting education. The first method is traditional regular classes and the second is distance learning or online education. Due to the fast-spreading of the pandemic virus COVID-19, the traditional classroom education system has been adversely affected while the online education system has been promoted. As for safety measures from COVID-19, the majority of the private and government Sectors who were already giving traditional education are also now looking and planning toward online education for their students. There is no doubt; all things and systems which have been designed by humans have space for improvement. I have personally talked with students and teachers regarding on online education system. According to their opinions/views, this system has some advantages and disadvantages. These are as under:-

Advantages.

• Online education provides several tools and instruments to the teachers and students such as videos, PDFs and Podcasts email. On using these tolls an extra efficiency is also enhanced for those who are non-information technology students and teachers.

• Students feel the relaxation in the online education system because this system provides the opportunity for them to attend the classes at their own time and at their own location of their choice. They can download the videos on their mobile phone and can watch them during journeys while walking and at parties. Even a sick student if he is not seriously ill can get the advantage to attend his classes at home or in hospital.

• Another advantage of this system is this; students can develop their contacts with others students in addition to their own classmates. They can share their views and comments frequently in the comment box to clarify their ambiguity.

• Naturally, all men do not have equal intelligence levels to pick and understand. So some students understand by hearing the lecture and some understand by watching the videos. Likewise, some like combined/group study and some students like to study alone in peace and calm place. Online education platform gives these all facilities and advantages to their students.

• The online education system has another advantage, this system is financially cheap if we compare it with a traditional regular class system. Expenditure on account of conveyance charges and hostel charges has not to be borne by them. Financially weak families feel happy and warmly welcome to this system.

• Professional people who are doing jobs can get the advantage of enhancing their skills through distance learning. Whereas the regular class system demands daily attendance and it is impossible for them with a job, however, they can do so if they take admitted to night classes.

• It has been observed, that some corrupt and criminal elements develop friendships with the students, especially those who live in hostels and then they blackmail them. In online education, students remain at home and criminals cannot contact them. It is a good advantage of this system.

• Online education gives a lot of time to the parents to look after their children and develop a good relationship with them.

Disadvantage. 

Some advantages of the traditional regular classroom education system and disadvantages of online education are as under;-

• The majority of the government and private schools, colleges and university teachers are well educated. They understand the qualities and weaknesses of the students. They play a good role in polishing the skill of the students and abolishing their weaknesses. In this regard, they motivate them collectively and also arrange meetings individually. Furthermore, if they feel so, they call the student parent’s and guide them also. But it is not in an online education system which is a disadvantage.

• Lack of confidence has been observed in the students of online education because they do not take part in class discussions and other debates like the regular classes students. While such participation is very important for the improvement of self-confidence.

• The non-availability of a Laboratory is also a disadvantage in online education. Practical for medical, engineering and for all those who are students of technical education is compulsory. They can't do practicals without the supervision of an experienced professional or a teacher of the concerned subject.

• A lot of countries are providing free of cost technical and non-technical education up to the secondary level to all children in government schools through traditional regular classes. On the other hand for online education a Mobile Phone, Personal Computer or a Lab Top has to be purchased. It means that online education is not free of cost; it is another disadvantage of this system.

• Lack of general knowledge has also been found in the student of online education because the regular class system gives general also. This disadvantage adversely affects morale and self-improvement.

• You can't physically observe and get the awareness of other societies, customs and lifestyles.

• The online education system does not improve the discipline like traditional classes. Lack of discipline is a big disadvantage.

• A disadvantage of weak speaking power has also been noticed in the students of online education.

Consequence.

According to the above-mentioned advantages and disadvantages of the online education system following consequences have been found:-

• Online education is a good system for employees who are committed to their own business.

• Health is our top priority. Due to COVID-19, the present situation compels us to adopt the online education system.

• We cannot compromise on the discipline of our children because they are our future. No other advantage of an online education system can fill the space of the lack of discipline.

Recommendation. 

It is recommended that education up to the secondary level may be given to the children through regular classes so that they could be made useful persons in the society. However safety measures against COVID-19 should be followed strictly and in case of any laxity, severe disciplinary action should be taken against the defaulter.
