A neighbour means a person, animal or any other thing like Mosque, Church, Temple, School, College, and University that exists near us will be called our neighbour. The limit of a neighbourhood can be expanded up to the whole world. In the present modern era, information technology and science have made the world a global village. We can talk face to face, and the share of information and money can be sent within a few seconds. All things near us have a great impact on our life. It depends on our lifestyle, what and how are we doing in our society. You can learn and grant the benefit from our all neighbour just we would have to be positive thinking and positive attitude for them. We can help each other at the right time during occasions of happiness or sadness.
Whose are your Neighbours?
Only, they are not our neighbours who are living next to our door. Following are also our neighbours:-
- All persons who are working permanently or temporary with us in the office or in the field are our neighbours.
- If you are a shopkeeper, there all who are on your right, left, front and backside are fall under the category of neighbour.
- During the journey by train, bus, car, by air or by sea, our co-sitter will be our neighbour.
- In the classroom or gathering for any purpose, our entire nearby are our neighbours. We should respect them like our residential neighbours.
- If we are sitting or standing in any playground to watching the match, there who is sitting or standing near us is our neighbour till to the end of the match. We would have not to do any act which does not accept him.
- Even if you are temporary or permanent at that location there humans are not residing near you but animals are there so they are your neighbour and you should have to be treated the animals like a neighbour.
Qualities of a Good Neighbour.
Sympathetic and Helpful.
As a good neighbour be remain sympathetic and helpful to all neighbours without any discrimination of language, colour or religion. If your neighbour is away from home for a job, business or something else, look after his family. Help his children with schooling and playing in the park so that they could not feel aloneness in the absence of his father. If your neighbours are old or abnormal help them for payment of their utility bills and carry the drinking water for them. Also, bring their commodities if they desired. Facilitate them in administration arrangements if they want to celebrate their birthday or any other happy event. Here I would like to share my good neighbour's kindness. “What he did for me” once upon, I was at my duty station long away from home. Suddenly I fell sick due to food poisoning. It was a very cold night of the winter season. I had not wanted to disturb any others but I was feeling very weak so I was unable to go to the hospital without support. I informed my neighbour, and he immediately came into my room and evacuated me to the hospital. The doctor checked up and admitted. My neighbour reported the matter to a senior and he remained in hospital for 4 days with me as an attendant. He sacrificed his rest upon me and treated me as a nurse. He proved himself a sympathetic and helpful neighbour. I cannot repay his service and also cannot forget till to my last breath. I pray to God that He gives him a good reward.
Respectful and cheerful.
A good neighbour gives respect to others and always meets with them cheerfully. He talks politely and says welcome in a good manner to all newcomers. He tries to do something good for creating harmony and a peaceful atmosphere. Whenever you meet with him, he says to you good morning, good evening or the good night before you say. Good neighbours guide and motivate the children to do the respect parents, teachers, elders and women. He and his children do not enter other houses frequently or without knocking on the door because they know the privacy and respect of the neighbours. Do the respect customs and ethical norms of your society wherever you live.
Discipline.
Discipline improves your lifestyle. A good neighbour always remains under the circle of discipline and does not do any illegal activity. He completely follows the rules and regulations of his society. He keeps cleaning his house, yards and front area of his door. He disposes of the garbage at a designated/nominated location. Pay full attention to hygiene and ensure a healthy environment. A disciplined man keeps the low voice of his TV, Radio, and other audio and video instruments. Park your vehicle in the parking area or on your car porch and do not park your vehicle in street.
Trustworthy.
A good neighbour has the quality of trustworthiness. Such a person has good moral principles. He does not interfere in the internal affairs of others without invitation. You can share your routine problems even family weaknesses with him for guidance/advice because being a trustworthy person he will keep secret your weaknesses. He knows the importance of privacy. You can give some something to borrow/loan if he demands. He will return the item to you at right time. I would like to say here, trust your neighbour but don’t blindly trust. Do trust but with a limit because blind or unlimited trust creates problems.
Social Worker.
A social worker can be proved himself a great neighbour. Do this job voluntarily. Prepare a list of emergency telephone numbers with addresses and place it at prominent places. If Possible sends it to all neighbours through email. Arrange the gathering at least quarterly of all available neighbours at a suitable place and deliver them a motivational lecture. Also, arrange healthy and recreational activities for your community. These activities provide opportunities for people to exchange their views. As an active social worker keep close liaisons with administration and utility departments to help society.
Conclusion.
A well-disciplined, hardworking, mature, honest, sympathetic, loyal, active and helpful person without personal gain can be proved himself a good neighbour in any community. Such a man knows the limit of his rights and the wideness of his duties. He accepts his responsibilities and also fulfils them. Give a small and affordable gift to your neighbours, especially newcomers. The gift is a big source of developing good relationships. When you cook a special dish, must give it neighbourhoods. Don’t forget them on happy occasions, give them an invitation. When your neighbour is doing a talk with you so do not interrupt, give him time to complete his talk/sentence because interruption is not a respectable attitude. Finally, I would like to say, a good neighbour is a great blessing of Allah from His special blessings.
I agree 💯 percent, good neighbours is bless of Allah.
